Ženklava: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Ženklava lies in a valley along the Sedlnička stream. The 539-metre-high Mount Kotouč (German: Ölberg) dominates the valley to the north. To the south, the ridge of Pekla, reaching up to 603 metres in height, forms the boundary with Lichnov. To the west, the valley is bounded by the 561-metre-high hill of Hlásnice (German: Wachberg), which borders the municipality of Životice.

The mountains of Kamenárka, Trojačka, Oprchlice and Kyčera are located in the vicinity of Ženklava. Approximately in the centre of the village stands a single-nave, non-oriented church with a square tower on the epistle side of the nave.

History

Ženklava was probably founded in the 13th century. The first written mention of the village dates from 1411, while the first mention of a church in Ženklava dates from 1512.

Since 25 July 1896, the local railway from Štramberk to Veřovice has run through the territory of Ženklava, west of Pekla.

Culture

Kristián David was born in Ženklava on 17 February 1692. His birthplace, now rebuilt, houses the Kristián David Museum. It features an exhibition about Kristián David and related topics. A memorial plaque stands in front of the birthplace.
