Spálov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Spálov combines an unusually dense sequence of historical and landscape-related points of interest: the predecessor of the chateau was a fortress, three different design elements meet in the chateau park, and Královec is also a nature reserve in its own right.

Culture and History

The Church of St. James the Elder is one of Spálov’s sites listed in the state register of immovable cultural monuments. In its present form, it dates from 1734. Inside is a pewter baptismal font bearing the year 1619.

Chateau Park

Spálov Chateau Park consists of three areas: an area with a pond, a formal French-style section, and an informal English landscape garden section. The areas described cover a total of approximately 1.2 hectares. The formal French garden was laid out under Emanuel Kajetán Záviše z Osenic (1743–1769).

A viewing terrace was created at the chateau between 1883 and 1885. This means that various historical design elements stand side by side in the park, from the formally laid-out French garden to the informal English landscape garden section.

Nature and Trails

A green-marked hiking trail leads from Heřmánky railway stop to Spálov. It is approximately 4 km long and has an elevation gain of 200 metres. Spálov also has its own nature reserve, Královec.

Places of Interest

Panna Maria ve Skále is a pilgrimage site in the Oder Valley. The Balerův větrný mlýn windmill also stands near Spálov. This windmill was built in 1929 by František Baler and is the smallest Dutch-type windmill in the Czech Republic.

Tradition

The traditional Spálovské hody festival features music, entertainment, and good food.
