Hostašovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The most important European watershed runs through Hostašovice. At the same time, the entire municipality lies within the Pobeskydí Nature Park. A large-scale geographical feature and the protection of a landscape unit therefore come together here in the same municipality. Both facts shape the classification of the place, without describing the same thing: the watershed represents the course of the terrain, while the nature park represents the area’s protected status.

Landscape and Springs

The protected natural monument Prameny Zrzávky is located in the cadastral area of Hostašovice. It includes springs with different mineral characteristics. One spring contains iron sulfate, another contains hydrogen sulfide. A third, separate hydrogen sulfide spring is located 300 metres away. The different springs are therefore not merely grouped under a common name, but are distinguished from one another by their respective characteristics and spatial separation.

Specific information applies to public access to the spring: Prameny Zrzávky can be reached by car without access restrictions, and the site is located 250 metres from the road. This information describes access to the spring, while the distance more precisely defines the site’s location in relation to the road.

Another geographical feature is located at the Jaštěrka spring on Trojačka Mountain. There, after a few metres, the spring flow divides into two branches. Each flows in the direction of a different sea. This geographical phenomenon is called bifurcation. The spring thus combines a named location, a short course of the spring flow and a division into two directions.

Culture and Local Tradition

The Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius is part of the history of the place. It was built in 1850 and consecrated on 17 October of the same year. The date of the consecration therefore falls in the same year as the construction of the chapel.

Another historical detail is connected with a sandstone cross. Master stonemason Josef Leidi made it in 1876 for 100 gulden. The material, year, name of the craftsman who made it and the stated amount all belong together as part of this recorded account.

A local food tradition is also still present in Hostašovice: buckwheat is still milled here today. People from the surrounding area buy buckwheat there. The tradition is thus connected both with processing carried out locally and with its wider regional surroundings.

Educational Trail and Cycle Route

The František Palacký educational trail passes through several thematic areas. It has 21 to 22 stations with information boards and focuses on nature, history, geology and the landscape of Podbeskydí. The stations connect these topics with a signposted sequence of information points; the number is given as 21 to 22.

The “Koleje” cycle route is easy and has only slight inclines. It is also suitable for families with children. Its route runs from Nový Jičín to Hostašovice railway station. The route’s character, gradients, stated target group and two endpoints are thus summarised in one description.
