Cityscape and History

Neutitschein can be understood through its historic town centre: the Městská památková rezervace Nový Jičín preserves historic plots, the character of the buildings, traditional floor plans, historic structures and the connecting arcades. The conservation area also includes a square with arcades and a rectangular system of adjoining streets that reflects the period when the town was founded under Přemysl Otakar II. The historic town centre within the Městská památková rezervace Nový Jičín is one of the most original and authentic examples of a Renaissance-Baroque town with preserved medieval urban planning.

After 1945, the Žerotínský zámek became the seat of the Muzeum Novojičínska. The Muzeum Novojičínska has a collection of hats and headwear that is considered one of Europe's unique collections.

The Hückelovy vily include a pair of villas with a mirror-image design, built between 1880 and 1882 according to plans by the Viennese architect Otto Thienemann. The Renaissance prismatic tower of the Kostelní věž farního chrámu Nanebevzetí Panny Marie was built at the end of the 16th century and is 66 metres high, including its dome.

Laudonův dům is the house where the Austrian field marshal Ernst Gideon von Laudon died in 1790. Since 2011, Laudonův dům has housed the Návštěvnické centrum. At Laudonův dům, children and adults can play Laudoncaching, a variant of geocaching.

The Návštěvnické centrum Nový Jičín is fully accessible. There is a ramp at the main entrance; an elevator is available in the rear part of the building for people with reduced mobility and visitors with prams. The public park around the Hückelovy vily allows visitors to walk from Revoluční Street to Lesopark Skalky.

Cycling

The “Koleje” cycle path is an easy cycling route with only gentle inclines and is also suitable for families with children.
