Hodslavice lies at the foot of the Moravian-Silesian Beskids and near the Beskids Protected Landscape Area. The village is also located on the main road between Nový Jičín and Valašské Meziříčí.

Culture and History

In the village centre stands the single-nave, timber-framed Church of St Andrew, dating from the early 15th century and built around the early 1480s. It is one of the oldest preserved wooden churches in the Czech Republic. The Church of the Divine Heart of the Lord in Hodslavice has been protected as an immovable cultural monument since 18 August 1999.

The birthplace of František Palacký was built in 1796 by his father, Jiří Palacký; it has been a national cultural monument since 1978. Fojtova stodola is a more than two-hundred-year-old farm building constructed from hewn beams and is an immovable cultural monument. As part of the Sochy u lesa cultural event, Fojtova stodola regularly hosts works by local and visiting artists as well as craftspeople.

The Hodslavice windmill stands on a hill west of Hodslavice. It was built in 1864 and is an immovable cultural monument in private ownership. For personal travel planning, sacred architecture, monuments, memorial culture, art and crafts can be considered as distinct cultural highlights.

Nature and Activity

The František Palacký educational trail has 21 to 22 stations with information panels about nature, history, geology and the landscape of the Podbeskydí region. The Palackého stezka tourist hike takes place every year on the penultimate Saturday in May and starts at the monument to František Palacký in Hodslavice.

You can plan a seasonal hiking day and a thematically organised educational trail as different travel highlights. The butterfly garden is freely and free of charge accessible year-round and is designed as a flower oasis with nectar-producing plants. In summer, the Kacabaja Reservoir near Hodslavice, in the direction of Hostašovice and Valašské Meziříčí, is frequently used for swimming and recreation.

Knowledge, activity, nature observation and summer recreation can be presented as different highlights alongside one another.

The local experiences can be weighted in different ways. Sacred architecture, monuments, memorial culture, art and crafts provide cultural highlights; the educational trail and hike represent activity and thematic exploration. The garden and reservoir offer a different focus between nature observation and summer recreation. For your own planning, these contrasts can serve as separate or interconnected themes for a day.

Anyone including a holiday apartment in Hodslavice in their travel plans can compare travel dates, room categories and cancellation policies on the accommodation pages. These details can then be matched with your own travel days and personal focus between culture, nature and summer recreation.
