Culture and History

Brušperk’s cultural landmarks include the parish church of St. George. It is a level-two cultural monument and features Romanesque, Baroque and Neoclassical elements. A Stations of the Cross with 14 chapels dating from the late 18th century surrounds St. George’s Church. The building was remodeled in 1871 and served cultural purposes as the first National House in Moravia.

The Vojtěch Martínek Memorial houses a permanent exhibition on the life and work of the writer Vojtěch Martínek. It also presents important figures from Brušperk, such as Jožka Matěj, František Palkovský, Bohumil Fiala and Vilém Vitekro.

The Brušperk urban heritage conservation zone around the town center was designated by Ministry of Culture Decree No. 476/1992 Coll. of September 10, 1992.

Landscape

Distinctive landscape features are also part of Brušperk’s character. The windmill in Brušperk occupies a prominent position in the landscape when viewed from the north in the direction of Ostrava. The wider regional surroundings of Brušperk include the Skalka and Kyčera mountains. The nearby hills are Sovinec [Fryčovice] and Kamenná [Staříč].

Educational Trail and Route

The Školní naučná stezka educational trail runs through Brušperk and comprises 24 stations. It uses wooden posts with QR codes linking to online materials created by students and teachers.

Route No. 6006 leads via Fryčovice to Brušperk, crosses the Ondřejnice and continues to the market square.
