Nature and trails

The historic route along the Acequia Las Lanchas is a 3.2-kilometre circular trail classified as a route without particular difficulty. The Ruta del Emperador Carlos V is 10 kilometres long and is classified as a low-difficulty route. This places two trails of different lengths, each with its own classification, side by side.

The canyoning descent in the Garganta Chorrera de la Mora includes ten abseiling sections, some of which are quite vertical. The Garganta de San Gregorio rises on the slope of the Collado de la Yegua in the Sierra de Tormantos mountain range; the pass is named Puerto del Emperador Carlos V.

A natural bathing area is located on the outskirts of Aldeanueva de la Vera towards Jarandilla de la Vera on the EX-203. Turning off near the new bridge area leads to the old road and the old bridge. Parking is available in this area.

Culture and history

About 2 kilometres from Aldeanueva de la Vera are the ruins of the Dominican monastery of Santa Catalina de Siena. The cloister and main façade, among other features, have been preserved. The Church of San Pedro Apóstol contains a Baroque altarpiece commissioned from Pedro de la Roza on 5 July 1723.

The same church houses a silver processional cross considered unique in the comarca. The Ermita de San Miguel dates from the 18th century and contains a depiction of the archangel of the same name. At the Glorieta de Pizarro is the Fuente de los Ocho Caños, a spring with spring water regarded as the most abundant and emblematic in the locality.

Festivals and cuisine

The Cristo del Sepulcro festival takes place on Whit Monday and has no fixed calendar date. The Fiestas del Cristo de la Salud are celebrated from 15 to 19 July. In addition to religious celebrations, they include popular festivities and traditional bull events with three days of Capeas.

During the VIVA-VIVA festival, bonfires are lit on 7 December while riders dressed in white carry torches. The fixed and movable festival dates provide different points of reference in the course of the year. Aldeanueva de la Vera is known for its paprika production and has an artisan tradition of confectionery making.
