Discover Pasarón de la Vera: Culture, Nature and Holiday Apartments

Pasarón de la Vera is considered a historic crossing point between the Jerte Valley and La Vera. In 1998, the town was recognized as a Conjunto de Interés-Artístico because of its traditional architecture, characteristic corners and natural landscapes.

At the entrance to the town lies the Fuente Cantera. The area around it was cleared and its basin cleaned to improve its visibility.

Culture and Townscape

The Palacio de los Manrique de Lara is an Italian Renaissance palace built in the 16th century, with five chimneys on the roof. As it is privately owned, it is not open for regular interior visits; however, its façade and exterior areas are visible from the street and the surrounding town.

The Iglesia de El Salvador was built in 1532 with a rectangular floor plan and a polygonal apse. The Torre Parroquial is Pasarón’s oldest structure and dates from the 13th century. As it stands separately from the church, it may originally have been a military watchtower.

The Museo Pecharromán was established in 1996 in the former rooms of Ricardo Pecharromán’s studio. The Ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Blanca was built at the end of the 16th century and is surrounded by an olive grove.

Nature and Trails

The ZEPA Río y Pinares del Tiétar protected area includes, among other features, the Garganta de Pasarón as one of its watercourses.

The Ruta de Los Boo is a 4.4-kilometre circular route with a low level of difficulty; it can be explored on foot or on horseback and begins on the road to Jaraíz next to the Finca Villa Josefa. The route passes through a dense forest of oaks, chestnut trees, strawberry trees and heather and offers views of the Tiétar Valley, Monfragüe and the Sierra de las Villuercas.

The Cerro Peñalba route is a circular trail of approximately three hours and 15 minutes with a moderate to medium level of difficulty; it ends at the Cerro Peñalba necropolis. The differences in length, duration, level of difficulty and mode of travel can be considered separately when incorporating the two routes into your plans. The descriptions emphasize different aspects: the Ruta de Los Boo combines a specific distance with forest and long-distance views, while Cerro Peñalba is defined by an approximate time, a different level of difficulty and the necropolis as its destination. The possibility of travelling on foot or on horseback also remains a distinct feature of the Ruta de Los Boo.

Traditions

San Blas is celebrated in Pasarón on 2 and 3 February with a procession in which a blessed branch is carried. The Romería de la Virgen de la Blanca is celebrated on Easter Monday in honour of the patron saint Nuestra Señora de la Blanca, with a procession.
