Pescueza: Discover Festivals, Culture and Nature

At the Festivalino de Pescueza, the programme from 10 to 12 April 2026 included workshops, concerts, family activities and batucada in the streets. In the 19th edition of the Festivalino de Pescueza, the traditional tree planting in the dehesa continued to be part of the festival.

Culture

The Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Pescueza was built between the 15th and 16th centuries. It has a Baroque altarpiece from the 18th century. Among the sights visited in Pescueza are the ruins of the Ermita de San Antón. In the past, burning logs from a fire were thrown onto the roofs there. They were believed to have the power to ward off thunderstorms.

Two periods can be directly identified in the church building: its construction dates from the 15th to the 16th century, while the Baroque altarpiece belongs to the 18th century. The ruins of the Ermita de San Antón stand alongside it as a separate site associated with a traditional belief about warding off thunderstorms.

Festivals and Customs

The Fiestas del Tálamo in Pescueza are a traditional, revived harvest festival held at the end of the harvest. The celebration is scheduled for the period from 9 to 17 August. In Pescueza, the “vaca-pendona” is prepared, a model cow with a very long fabric tail. The Romería de San Marcos is celebrated in Pescueza every year. San Marcos is the patron saint of the town.

The “vaca-pendona” gives the Tálamo a clearly defined image: its model form and very long fabric tail are part of the festival preparations. At Festivalino, tree planting in the dehesa adds another distinct custom.

Nature

The ZEPA Canchos de Ramiro Special Protection Area for Birds was designated by Decree 232/2000 of 21 November 2000. It covers 6,236 hectares and includes, among others, the municipality of Pescueza. The Aula de Naturaleza Canchos de Ramiro is located on the road from Cachorrilla to Pescueza. This road is designated CC-70. North of Pescueza, a footpath runs along the Arroyo del Canchalón through a landscape characterised by rocks and holm oaks. The path leads to the bank of the Río Alagón. An old grain mill, or former river mill, is located there.

In the natural area, a large-scale protected-area designation, an Aula de Naturaleza located on the CC-70 and a northern path to the Río Alagón come together. The path links the Arroyo del Canchalón, rocks and holm oaks with the old or former mill site on the river.

Routes

Pescueza can be reached via the EX-109, CC-148 and then CC-149 roads. The route passes through Portaje. The Ruta de la Aceña del Tío Ramiro is signposted or recommended as a route near Pescueza.

The two route references take different forms: the Ruta de la Aceña del Tío Ramiro is designated as a route, while the northern footpath describes its course via landscape features and the riverbank.
