Discover Tartareu
Culture and heritage
In Tartareu, the former village school was renovated. It was transformed into the Centre de Dinamització for the historical, natural and rural heritage of the municipality of Les Avellanes i Santa Linya.
The Centre de Dinamització de Tartareu includes an area of the Memorial Democràtic about Clot de les Bombes de Tartareu. This connects the former use of the school building with an expressly designated area of remembrance and local history.
Tartareu is one of five starting points for the routes of the Centre BTT Montsec-la Noguera.
History
The first mention of Sant Miquel de Tartareu dates from 1083. At that time, Ermengol IV d’Urgell and Adelaida donated the church of Castell de Tartareu to the canonry of Santa Maria de Solsona.
Sant Miquel de Tartareu stands at the foot of Castell de Tartareu, on the slope of the hill that dominates the town centre of Tartareu; Castell de Tartareu occupies the highest part of this hill. The church and castle are therefore located at different points on the same hill: Sant Miquel at the foot and the Castell at its highest point.
The present-day church of Sant Miquel de Tartareu was built in the second half of the 12th century. The original building had previously been abandoned.
Castell de Tartareu was conquered by Ermengol IV d’Urgell between 1076 and 1078.
Paths and landscape
