Espot – Nature, Mountain Trails and Holiday Apartment

Alongside the Vall de Boí, Espot is one of the two most important traditional access points to Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park. Espot provides access to Estany de Sant Maurici. The Espot Valley is known for Estany de Sant Maurici and the rugged peaks of Els Encantats.

Nature

From the access point near Espot, Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park offers routes to more than 20 glacial lakes. There are well-signposted mountain trails in the valleys around Espot. The trails range from level walking paths through passes and mountain saddles to peaks. To the north of Espot, there is a Romanesque bridge over the Escrita River. Several trails begin at Espot’s Romanesque bridge, including a trail to Estany de Sant Maurici.

The landscape features different types of trails and elevations in the valleys around Espot. Between the valleys, the national park access point and the summit areas are signposted trails, passes, mountain saddles and routes to the lakes. The Romanesque bridge over the Escrita is another starting point for trails through the surrounding area.

Getting Around

Private cars can only be driven as far as the car parks from the access point near Espot. From there, visitors continue on foot into the protected area. A year-round 4x4 taxi service takes visitors from Espot to Estany de Sant Maurici. Alternatively, it can take visitors to Estany de Ratera or Estany d’Amitges. A guided snowshoe hike starts at Espot Ski. Its route runs from the Roca chairlift to the Creu de l’Eixol viewpoint. The hike takes approximately two hours.

Culture

A medieval watchtower has been preserved in Espot. It is called Torre dels Moros. Santa Llogaia d’Espot is Espot’s parish church. The Casa del Parc Nacional in Espot is an interpretation centre dedicated to the conservation of the native flora and fauna. The permanent exhibition “Els tres móns del Parc: la roca, l’aigua i la vida” can be seen at the Casa del Parc in Espot.

Visitor Information

The car park in Espot offers in-person visitor information. A lift provides access to all floors. The car park also has an adapted toilet. The car park is accessible to people with reduced mobility.

Winter and Cycling

Espot Esquí ski resort offers skiing among black pine forests. While skiing, you can see mountains rising above 3,000 metres. There are numerous trails and tracks for mountain biking around Espot. The mountain bike tours lead through forests and alpine meadows.
