In Esterri de Cardós, a marked, easy out-and-back route of less than 4 km leads to the Cap de la Roca viewpoint; it is considered suitable for families. Parking for this route is available in the square next to the town hall at the entrance to the village or on the streets of Esterri de Cardós.

Landscape and Views

At the Cap de la Roca viewpoint, there is an information board that helps identify the visible mountains and provides information about the local flora and fauna. On the way to the Cap de la Roca viewpoint, there are two granite blocks considered evidence of glacial erosion and glacial transport in the Esterri Valley. They came from the head of the valley and were scattered along the mountain slopes after the ice melted approximately 10,000 years ago. Their colour stands out clearly against the grey slate of the Esterri Valley.

The Pla de Nègua offers privileged panoramic views over the Ferrera and Cardós valleys. The route from Esterri de Cardós to the Pla de Nequa passes through meadows as well as birch, Scots pine and black pine forests, leading to an alpine meadow with views over the Ferrera and Cardós valleys. The hay meadows of Cultia d’Arrós are considered an outstanding landscape feature.

Hiking and Winter

Walks through the villages and various hiking trails make it possible to explore the natural, cultural and scenic surroundings of Esterri de Cardós. The Bordes de Llosaus are traditional livestock buildings in the Pyrenees. From Ginestarre, the Bordes de Llosaus can be reached on foot via a pleasant path along the sunny valley slope.

One of the Bordes de Llosaus was restored using traditional construction methods, with a rye-thatch roof. It is now considered the only borda in the entire Pallars region with this original design. Esterri de Cardós is known for snowshoeing and other snow-related sports in the high mountains. One of the municipality’s highlights is the Esterri de Cardós–Pla de Nèqua–Pic de Tudela route. The Fira d’Arrós is a fair held to promote the Ovella Aranesa sheep breed.
