Les: Haro rituals and routes through alpine meadows

On 23 June, Les hosts the Crema deth Haro, a fire ritual. During the Crema deth Haro, traditional dances accompany the burning of the Halhes, torches made from cherry-tree bark. On 29 June, a new Haro is erected in Les. Thus, two Haro traditions with different fixed elements take place over the course of the year: the fire ritual with dances and torches, and the erection of a new Haro.

Culture and tradition

The themed route „Castèth de Les, Passejada pera Istòria d’Aran“ consists of nine elements and includes, among other things, Castillo de Pijoert. The Romanesque chapel of Sant Blai de Les dates from the 12th century and lies behind Era Baronia. The Les–Era Lana–Les route passes the Romanesque chapel of Sant Blai and reaches Era Lana after around 1,200 metres, on a level meadow. This route therefore connects the chapel site with a named destination and a clearly described landscape form.

In the wider regional surroundings of Les lies the Basilique Saint-Just, a church. The Cathédrale Notre-Dame is also located in the wider regional surroundings and is likewise a church. Both buildings are therefore classified as churches in the wider regional surroundings of Les.

Nature and landscape

Les offers routes through forests and alpine meadows with views of the Val d’Aran. The summit of Tuc des Tres Corets lies near Les. The summit of Malh des Bessons is located in the same nearby area. The summit of Cap dera Sèrra is also in the vicinity of Les. The summit of Cabeza de Tonete is likewise located nearby. Each of the four named summits has its own name and is independently assigned to the immediate surroundings of Les.

Activities

The Torre de Cledes via ferrata in Les has a 125-metre-long route and is designated as a K2 introductory route. On the river near Les, rafting, canoeing, canyoning, hydrospeed and ziplining are considered activities. The LIO 395 bus route connects Les in the Val d’Aran with Barbazan and Saint-Gaudens. Les, Barbazan and Saint-Gaudens are therefore linked by a named bus connection.
