La Pobla De Cérvoles – Art, Wine and Olive Oil Culture

The Vinya dels Artistes in La Pobla de Cérvoles is an open-air museum. In the mountain landscape of Les Garrigues, it combines art and wine. The Vinya dels Artistes is classified as a cultural asset of local interest and is listed with the Ministry of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya under registration number 14650-I.

Culture and History

The parish church of Mare de Déu de la Jonquera is a Neoclassical church dating from the 18th century. Its floor plan follows the Latin cross, and the building also has three naves. Inside is a fully restored Baroque organ built by Anton Casas around 1752. In summer, the church hosts concerts as part of the Catalan organ concert cycle.

The Ermita de San Miguel houses a reproduction created by the painter Salvador Jané.

The historical-religious performance “Ombres i Clarors de la Pobla de Cérvoles” is staged inside the temple. Four to five years elapse between performances, so it returns at relatively long intervals.

Wine and Olive Oil

At Mas Blanch i Jové, guided tours include wine and olive oil tastings. Visits take place on Saturdays from 10:00 to 16:00 and on Sundays from 11:00 to 14:00. Other times are also possible for group visits by reservation. The tastings combine the two defining agricultural products of the local culture in a guided visit. The times stated indicate the regular visiting schedule: on Saturdays, it runs from the morning into the afternoon, while on Sundays it is limited to the morning. For groups, however, the explicitly stated option of arranging other times by reservation applies.

The Ecomuseo del Aceite provides a comprehensive insight into the traditional production of olive oil. The topics covered also include the quality of olive oil, as well as its culture and history. The building that now houses the Ajuntament and the Ecomuseu del Aceite was formerly an olive oil mill. This former oil mill was built in 1870, preserving a historical connection to local olive oil production.

Nature and Hiking Route

The Arborètum del Dr. Barberà is a garden with trees and shrubs. The trees and shrubs have been planted experimentally, for reforestation or as a collection. The municipality also lists the “Creus de terme, Arborètum i Argila” hiking route. The route is 6.2 kilometres long and connects the trail with the Arborètum, as well as with the wayside crosses mentioned in its name and the theme of clay.
