History

The present-day village of Pobleta de Bellvehí emerged between the 13th and 14th centuries. It replaced the older village of Bellveí. At the beginning of the 15th century, a new church was built in the centre of Pobleta de Bellvehí. It was dedicated to Saint Feliu.

Culture

The parish church of Sant Feliu has a distinctive flat roof. Its apse is semicircular and inspired by Romanesque forms. The parish church’s bell tower is plain and austere; its lower section is square, while its upper section is octagonal. Pobleta de Bellvehí has cobbled streets. The houses are stone buildings with wooden windows. The La Mola building in Pobleta de Bellvehí contains a grain mill and a small hydroelectric power station. The Escola Folk del Pirineu lists musical material for Pobleta de Bellvehí entitled “Ball pla de la Pobleta”.

The Fira Ramadera de la Pobleta de Bellveí takes place every year on the first weekend of October. Its programme includes demonstrations of traditional crafts. The fair includes the sale of handicrafts. Organic meat is also available for tasting there.

The history of the village is therefore reflected both in the transition from the older Bellveí to the present-day village and in the Sant Feliu church. Its visible features include the flat roof, the semicircular apse and the bell tower with a square lower section and octagonal upper section.
