Ponts combines impressive sacred buildings, local festival traditions, archaeological traces and special waterside locations. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Ponts, Sant Pere de Ponts, Lo Ranxo, the Museu Francesc Boncompte and the whitewater channel offer very different facets that can be combined into a varied stay.

Romanesque architecture, arcades and sacred art

The Romanesque church of Sant Pere de Ponts stands on a terrace on the southern slope of Sant Pere mountain. Its cultural and historical significance is also shaped by its designation in April 1931: at that time, the republican Generalitat declared Sant Pere de Ponts a Monument Nacional de Catalunya.

Another striking detail can be found in the preserved upper arcades of Carrer Major. They rest on thick stone columns and round arches. Santa Maria de Ponts is also home to the Retaule del Roser, a polychrome carved wooden altarpiece dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary and the Mysteries of the Rosary.

Festivals with a communal character

Lo Ranxo takes place as a communal meal on Shrove Tuesday and is associated with the last day before Lent. Around 12,000 portions of this traditional recipe are prepared in 50 to 60 cauldrons. After cooking, Lo Ranxo is blessed before residents and visitors enjoy the meal.

Lo Roser de Ponts is also closely linked to an established organisational tradition. The festival is led by four Majorales: two unmarried and two married women, who take on the main organisational role. The Caramelles were held continuously in Ponts from 1999 to 2022, with the exception of two pandemic-related years. On 8 April 2004, the Processó del Silenci revived the tradition of the Armats in Ponts.

Archaeology and collections

The archaeological site of Gravats de Mas de n'Olives in Ponts is protected as an archaeological BCIN zone. The designation took place on 25 June 1985. This makes the site one of the specific points of interest for anyone interested in traces of earlier eras.

The Museu Francesc Boncompte houses a large collection of bladed weapons and firearms from various periods. It also displays old motorcycles, instruments from various crafts and old toys. The different collection areas provide several ways to explore the material culture of Ponts.

Water and recreation on the Segre

The Ponts whitewater channel offers good conditions for fishing and adventure sports. The Parc de la Roca del Call, by contrast, is a recreational area on the banks of the Segre River in Ponts. Both locations represent different ways of combining your stay with water and landscape.

Choosing the right holiday apartment in Ponts

When choosing a holiday apartment in Ponts, you can focus on the aspects that appeal to you most: Romanesque architecture and sacred art, the Lo Ranxo and Lo Roser festivals, archaeology and collections, or the opportunities at the whitewater channel and on the Segre.
