Culture and History
Sant Llorenç de Morunys is considered the historic capital of the Vall de Lord. The Museu-Centre d'Interpretació de la Vall de Lord displays cultural assets and other elements of the cultural heritage that explain the entire history of the Vall de Lord. The old town of Sant Llorenç de Morunys has medieval origins and preserves part of the portico at Plaça Major, as well as five former gates in the town walls. Beneath the portico and at the church portal, you can see moulded plaster ceilings that were restored a few years ago. The church of Sant Llorenç de Morunys is a fine example of 11th-century Lombard Romanesque architecture and was declared a historic-artistic monument in 1976. Its cloister was added in the 16th century. The Fira del Drap Piteu is a medieval-themed festival that revives the textile heritage of Sant Llorenç de Morunys through the Drap Piteu. According to tradition, the image of the Mare de Déu dels Colls, formerly known as the Mare de Déu del Coll, was found in the 13th century by two Benedictine monks from the monastery of Sant Llorenç and a shepherd on a hill near the hermitage of Mare de Déu dels Àngels.
