Discover Fulleda
Culture and history
The Fira Heroica takes place in Fulleda on the third Sunday in September. The event is dedicated to Agustina d’Aragó.
The programme includes workshops and historical reenactments. The Fira Heroica also includes guided tours of various local sights. Games and communal meals are part of it as well.
A monument to Agustina d’Aragó stands in Fulleda. She was a heroine of the Spanish War of Independence. Her parents came from Fulleda.
The connection between the event and the monument makes Agustina d’Aragó present in two places in the village: the Fira Heroica commemorates her through its dedication, while the monument to Agustina d’Aragó stands in Fulleda.
The Racó del Bolet memorial commemorates five children aged between 12 and 16. They died on 12 February 1939 during the Spanish Civil War in the explosion of an abandoned box of bombs. Racó del Bolet is on the outskirts of the village, almost 300 metres in the direction of Tarrés. The memorial was inaugurated on 9 February 2014.
The church of Santa Maria dates from the early 14th century. It is a late Romanesque building in transition to Gothic. As a single-nave religious building, it has a pointed barrel vault. At the head of its original structure is a three-arched bell gable. During restoration work on the church in 1986, part of its former Romanesque portal was uncovered.
Santa Maria therefore displays both its original Romanesque design and the later transition to Gothic. The bell gable belongs to the head of the original structure, while the former Romanesque portal only became partially visible again during the 1986 restoration.
