Novés: Churches, Pilgrimage Routes and Historical Traces
Novés makes its history visible in unusually tangible places.
Culture and History
The main chapel and the transept of the church of Novés are works of 15th-century pointed-arch architecture; the rest of the church was built between 1630 and 1664. The temple of Novés is a basilica with three naves, separated from one another by twelve stone Doric columns.
The parish church of Novés has three naves, separated from one another by pillars with square cross-sections and semicircular arches. The Casa de las Cadenas was formerly a synagogue and was later used as a residence for prominent figures. Lope de Vega lived in the Casa de las Cadenas in Novés between 1590 and 1605.
The Ermita de San Roque was consecrated in 1619 by Bishop Melchor de Soria y Vera and restored in 2013. The Ermita del Santísimo Cristo de la Sangre dates from the 16th century and is registered as a monument. Its rectangular nave ends at the altar end in a polygonal apse. At the four corners of the Ermita del Cristo de la Sangre, worked granite pieces have been preserved and assigned to the Stations. The Ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Monjía was originally built before the Muslim invasion and rebuilt in 1400.
