Nature and Activities

The AÝ-01 Circular de los Picarzos route is 4.2 kilometres long, easy and suitable for families. Aýna’s network of trails comprises nine hiking routes and two walking routes in the town. Different route lengths help you compare the options for planning your day.

The Los Picarzos via ferrata offers two routes: an introductory route graded K2 and a K4 route. The K2 route includes an optional 60-metre zip line and a 10-metre wooden bridge.

The Barranco Salsipuedes involves an approach walk of around 30 minutes, a descent of 1.5 to 2 hours and a 15-minute return walk. It is a short, easy gorge descent route with installations for standard abseiling manoeuvres, short traverses, one guided abseil and a redirect on another abseil. The stated time ranges provide a specific basis for comparison with shorter trails.

The Mirador astronómico del Cañón del Mundo has a large unpaved area where visitors can set up telescopes for observation. Aýna has five viewpoints along the town. An event has been held at the Mirador astronómico del Cañón del Mundo since 2003.

Access to the Cueva del Niño involves 16 kilometres by road, 1.5 kilometres along a forest track and then approximately 45 minutes on a mountain trail of medium to high difficulty. The mountain trail to the Cueva del Niño is being gradually restored; the trail surface, erosion protection, drainage and signage are being improved to make the route safer and more comfortable without affecting the sensitive surroundings. The Aýna Tourist Office organises guided tours of the town centre and the Cueva del Niño.

The Ruta de “Amanece que no es poco” recommends Aýna as a starting point; the route can also be completed in any order.

Culture and History

The Centro de Interpretación Amanece, que no es poco presents filming locations, objects, photographs and anecdotes from the 1989 film Amanece, que no es poco.

The guided tour “Visita guiada casco urbano” introduces visitors to the origins, history, traditions and legends of Aýna. It includes a visit to the Museo Etnológico; admission is included in the price.

At the so-called Cueva de los Moros on the Camino Viejo, small remnants of the walls can be seen; there is also a cistern in the upper area. Aýna is home to an originally Muslim fortification dating from the 12th century.

The Cueva del Niño is the only site with Palaeolithic cave paintings in Castilla-La Mancha.

Events

The Santo Cristo festival takes place on the first Saturday in May; traditional customs include a procession with a cross completely decorated with flowers to the Rincón de la Toba. Aýna’s patron saint festivities take place from 4 to 8 September; the traditional bull runs are held on 5, 6 and 7 September.
