Bonete: History, Festivals and Astronomical Observation
Since May 1952, the Romería in honour of San Isidro has been celebrated in Bonete. The Romería includes decorated floats depicting scenes from the lives of farmers in earlier times. Its procession leads from the church to the Peñas Blancas neighbourhood and then to the San Fernando estate. A celebration in Bonete lasts five days and takes place on the first weekend of October. This festival thus combines a religious occasion, rural motifs and a fixed route with a clearly defined period. The church, Peñas Blancas and San Fernando estate stops give the proceedings their own local sequence, while the decorated floats make historical everyday scenes visible.
Culture
The Iberian settlement of El Amarejo is located on Cerro del Amarejo south of Bonete. It is designated as a Bien de Interés Cultural and can be reached without difficulty. Approximately two hours are planned for the visit; this approximate duration defines a clear time frame for the visit. The location, designated status and visiting time describe the site from different perspectives without reducing it to a single characteristic.
The Iglesia de San Juan Bautista is a 17th-century church with a single-nave layout and a Late Gothic ribbed vault. Baroque and Churrigueresque chapels complement its architectural design. The church also contains the tomb of Alejandro O’Reilly, Viceroy of Louisiana, who died in Bonete in 1794. Several historical layers therefore come together in this building: its origins in the 17th century, the Late Gothic form of the vault, the later chapels and the tomb of a named historical figure. The layout, vault, chapels and tomb each provide different focal points for viewing the church.
Cuisine
Gazpacho is considered the most popular dish in Bonete and can be prepared with meat—such as partridge, pigeon or rabbit—or as a meat-free version. The two preparation styles create a clear contrast on the plate: meat is possible, but not required. When planning your own trip, the culinary question can be considered independently of any preferred dietary style. At the same time, the ingredients mentioned show that the meat-based version is not limited to a single type of meat, while the meat-free preparation is a distinct option.

Experiences
Bonete is one of the Starlight locations in the Corredor de Almansa, whose dark and clear skies are suitable for astronomical observation. The Mirador Astronómico Starlight de Bonete was designated as the venue for a scheduled astronomical event. This topic therefore focuses both on the broader classification within the Corredor de Almansa and on the specifically named viewpoint. The suitability of the dark, clear sky for astronomical observation and the scheduled event date remain two separate pieces of information.
