Siero: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Routes and landscape

The Ruta de los Palacios Rurales begins at the Palacio del Marqués de Santa Cruz de Marcenado in Pola de Siero. The palace is considered a typical example of Baroque palace architecture from the last quarter of the 17th century; its gardens are now part of Parque Alfonso X.

The Ruta del Carbón runs through mining landscapes in the Candín Valley between Siero and Langreo and can be used on foot or by bicycle. Along the banks of the Río Nora, the Senda Fluvial del Río Nora follows an almost entirely flat route; it is fully accessible to wheeled vehicles.

The first stage of the Conexión Costa - Primitivo route runs for 21.6 kilometres from Casquita to La Pola Siero. The route passes through Vega (Sariego), El Castru and Aveno before reaching La Pola Siero. The Ruta Minera de Jovellanos begins at the Palacio de Valdesoto.

Culture and history

The Museo del Hórreo en Miniatura (MUHOMI) displays miniature models of Asturian hórreos from the eastern, central and western areas. The collection comprises twenty handcrafted pieces.

The Museo del Sifón - La Cotorra preserves more than 15,000 siphon bottles from various places of origin, including London, Paris, Poland and Argentina. The museum also uses this collection to explain the development of the siphon.

The Iglesia de San Esteban de los Caballeros is first mentioned in a written donation dating from 1240. Local festivals include the Fiesta de Nuestra Señora del Carmen y Carmín, which originated in 1695.

Food and festivals

In the parish of Argüelles in Siero, Fabes de la granja are grown; they have a designation of origin. Queso de Varé is a cylindrical white cheese made from matured goat's milk and produced in Varé (Anes).

Siero has a strong cider tradition, with twelve producing cider houses. Cider production per inhabitant is highest in the municipality in the parish of Tiñana.

In La Pola Siero, the Fiesta de los Huevos Pintos takes place on the Tuesday after Easter Sunday. It includes festively decorated stalls selling painted eggs.
