Lugones between nature trails, festivals and history

In Lugones, the Senda Verde La Cebera begins either at the SI-1 or at Lugones RENFE station. The circular route is 5 km long, takes approximately two hours and has a low difficulty level.

Nature

The Senda Verde La Cebera passes through a park covering approximately 300,000 square metres and home to around 2,000 plant species. La Cebera, also known as El Carbayu, is a hundred-year-old woodland with a diverse bird population and varied flora. La Cebera also includes a large lagoon with a lookout point.

The Senda Lugones-Parque Principado runs along the banks of the Nora through riverside vegetation where mallards and moorhens can be observed. The route is 3.3 km long, linear, takes approximately 30 minutes and has a low difficulty level. The different route lengths and approximate durations help you compare the two trails for your own planning.

Lugones municipal outdoor swimming pool is located in the La Cebera recreation area. La Cebera offers access for hiking, a road access point, parking, a children's play area, picnic tables and access for coaches.

Culture

The Muestra de Teatro de Lugones has taken place continuously since its first edition in August 1987. Held during the last week of August, it marks the beginning of the Santa Isabel patron saint festivities. These Fiestas were started by a group of women and have a history spanning more than a century.

The Fiestas de El Carbayu in Lugones combine religious tradition, gastronomy, music and activities for all age groups. Lugones also holds a weekly market on Fridays.

The Museo de la Romería recreates, through a large-scale model, the Nuestra Señora del Buen Suceso festival of El Carbayu in Lugones as it looked in 1952. The scene includes up to 300 figures. Visitors can see the depicted attractions in operation and hear the orchestras' music at the model.

General visits to the Museo de la Romería are offered on Thursdays and Fridays from 18:00 to 20:00; admission is free, although opening hours and prices may vary depending on the season.

Food and drink

Sidra Fran offers tours of its own lagares. Lagar Sidra Fran was founded in 1918 by Francisco Villanueva Suárez. Sidra Fran produces the natural cider Ramos del Valle, with the protected designation of origin DOP Sidra de Asturias, as well as the natural cider Sidra Fran.

History

The Puente Vieyu de Lugones connects Siero and Oviedo, crossing the Nora River. Since 30 May 2011, it has been listed in the Inventario del Patrimonio Cultural del Principado de Asturias, where its historical and architectural value is recognised. On the Senda Lugones-Parque Principado, the Puente Vieyu de Lugones is a designated point of interest.

A Late Antique necropolis dating from the 4th and 5th centuries AD is associated by researchers with the Villa de Paredes in Lugones. The Palacio de Lueje is a rectangular Casona with an attic featuring dormer windows and the restrained, sparsely decorated architecture of the 19th century; a chapel is attached to its northern side.
