Discover Estada: Holiday apartment between culture and nature

The remains of the Castillo de Estada stand on the rocky upper part of the village: two towers, greatly reduced in height, made of irregularly hewn stones. The Castillo de Estada is included in the list of castles considered Cultural Heritage Sites of Special Interest (Bienes de Interés Cultural).

Culture and history

The Iglesia de San Pedro is an 18th-century Baroque church with a single nave. The Ermita de San Valero is located next to the cemetery of Estada.

The origins of Estada are associated with Villa Stata, a fortified agricultural settlement from the late Roman period in the 6th century. Mosaics from the grand halls of Villa Stata are preserved in the Provincial Museum of Zaragoza.

Estada has long had a significant local tradition of metalworking. Among the wrought-iron works that can be discovered while walking through Estada is a sword set into a rock. Estada also features large murals airbrushed by the artist David Gatta from Somontano.

Festivals and local traditions

The festival in honor of Santa María Magdalena on July 22 is now considered Estada’s main festival and is celebrated during the summer months. Traditionally, the “ajaceite” festival was celebrated in Estada on the last day of the olive harvest.

Nature and trails

The El Ciego reservoir forms an interesting wetland where the river slows down. The Ruta por la Sierra de Estada offers panoramic views of the Sierra de Guara and the Pyrenees and is of ornithological interest.

The El Diapiro de Estada route runs along the Barranco de las Mazas and passes riverside vegetation consisting of poplars, ash trees and elms. El Diapiro de Estada ends in Estada. The GR 45 long-distance hiking trail passes through Estada.
