Culture and history

At the edge of the rock in the Barrio de la Peña are the so-called Casas colgantes, a group of buildings. Remains of Biescas’s medieval town wall can also be discovered there. La Torraza now serves as an interpretation centre for the region’s traditional architecture, the historical crafts and materials used in construction and other work, as well as the history and life of Biescas in the 16th century.

The annual national Villa de Biescas amateur theatre competition was established in 2010. It takes place from January to March and welcomes groups from all over Spain. At the end of October, the Feria de Otoño de Biescas takes place. It combines livestock shows and auctions with handicrafts, performances, exhibitions and product tastings.

Landscape along the Río Gállego

The geological formations Señoritas de Arás, also known as Chimeneas de las Hadas, were formed from moraine deposits and are located near the Barranco de Arás. The Ermita de Santa Elena can be reached via a hiking trail from Biescas in approximately two hours. This trail is signposted with yellow metal plaques of the Sendero Turístico de Aragón. Santa Elena has a beginner-friendly via ferrata suitable for adults and children. A tourist road cycling route passes through all the villages in the municipality, begins and ends in Biescas and includes three mountain passes.

Getting to Biescas

From Zaragoza, the road route follows the A-23 towards Huesca, continues on the motorway towards Sabiñánigo and then follows the N-260 to Biescas. When travelling by bus, the Zaragoza–Jaca line runs to Sabiñánigo; there, you need to change to a bus on the Jaca–Formigal line, which stops in Biescas.
