Piedrafita de Jaca combines a striking mountain landscape with distinctive places and trails that offer very different impressions. Peña Telera, the Mirador al Embalse de Búbal and the Ibón de Piedrafita lead from the summit to views over the valley and on to the mountain lake. Architectural details and cultural stories from the Valle de Tena complement this landscape at the same time.
Peña Telera, Viewpoint and Mountain Lake: Mountain Landscape and Views over the Valle de Tena
Peña Telera is a summit in the Sierra de Partacua and lies on the outskirts of Piedrafita de Jaca. The Mirador al Embalse de Búbal is located at the entrance to Piedrafita de Jaca; from there, views extend across the Valle de Tena.
Easy Trails, PR-HU 93, Ascent and a More Challenging Final Section
The Arco Geotectónico de Piedrafita can be reached via a very easy route suitable for children. However, the final ascent is more challenging. When planning the day for this trail, the more challenging final section should therefore be considered separately from the very easy approach.
The PR-HU 93 initially leads uphill from Piedrafita de Jaca to Parque de Lacuniacha and then continues along a trail to the Ibón de Piedrafita. Unlike the Arco Geotectónico, the initial ascent is expressly part of the described route for this trail. The PR-HU 93 is catalogued and inventoried by the Government of Aragón as a Sendero Turístico de Aragón; its operator has undertaken to maintain it regularly and promote it.
Nature between Lacuniacha, Two Ecosystems, Bosque de Betato and the Ibón
Lacuniacha offers a four-kilometre, easy mountain hiking route through two typical Pyrenean ecosystems. The length and easy nature of this trail provide a clear framework for planning the day, while the two ecosystems change the landscape impression along the route. The four kilometres allow for clear planning of the day without assuming a specific duration. The Ibón de Piedrafita is one of the most easily accessible mountain lakes in the Aragonese Pyrenees.
The Laberinto de los Pirineos lies at the foot of Peña Telera and next to the Bosque de Betato. Its location between the foot of the mountain and the forest connects two distinctive landscape settings in one specific place.
Architecture, Traditions, Former Washhouses and Local History
Casa Silvestre features a curved keel arch and a two-storey design. The traditional way of life in Piedrafita de Jaca historically revolved around livestock farming with sheep, cattle and horses, as well as agriculture. This included potatoes, cereals, fodder crops and subsistence gardens.
The Centro de Interpretación de la Brujería de Piedrafita de Jaca is located in the former washhouses of the village. On the Tren Valle de Tena, an explanatory narrative conveys the history, traditions and legends of the Valle de Tena during the journey.
