The saltworks of Peralta de la Sal were used continuously for salt production for around 2,000 years, until the end of the 20th century. Their landscape comprises evaporation ponds in which saltwater is distributed through hollowed-out, interlocking wooden channels.

Culture
The saltworks of Peralta de la Sal are designated as a Bien de Interés Cultural. The Iglesia de Santa María, built in the 17th century, features stucco work in the Mudéjar tradition on its vaults, choir lofts, galleries, arch reveals and dome. The church is classified as a Bien Catalogado of the cultural heritage of Aragón.
The Santuario de San José de Calasanz has a chapel built above the birthplace of San José de Calasanz as its central feature. The Lo Pilaret site is also connected to his history: at the exit of Peralta de la Sal on the road to Azanuy lies a landscaped site with a grandstand-shaped monument, side staircases and an olive tree standing on top. The monument commemorates an episode from the childhood of San José de Calasanz.
History
The remains of two fortifications survive at Castillo de la Mora. They include a 12-by-11-metre keep, an arched entrance, a vaulted cistern and remnants of the walls. Castillo de la Mora is included in the list of castles in Aragón classified as Bienes de Interés Cultural and stands on a 772-metre-high hill.
Another testament to historical use is the well-preserved Pozo de Hielo de Peralta de la Sal. It was used to obtain ice for transporting and preserving food, as well as for making ice cream and soft drinks.
Landscape
The mountains of Tossal Gros and Montdevalls, as well as the Santuari del Vilet church, are located in the vicinity of Peralta de la Sal. The surrounding area also includes the peaks of Berguelli and San Quílez, as well as the ruins of Sant Jaume de Miravet. The Castillo de Monzón fortress and Castell de Fals castle are located farther afield in the region.
