Discover Hinojos: Doñana, the Corpus Festival and Trails

Hinojos contributes 23,863 hectares to the Doñana natural area; the Marisma de Hinojos extends over 8,500 hectares. The extensive natural areas stand alongside protected cultural heritage, local festival traditions, a children’s tradition and trails through woodland. You can combine these themes according to your personal interests.

Culture and tradition

A prominent cultural landmark in the town is the Iglesia de Santiago el Mayor. It is protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural in the “Monument” category. The Corpus Festival of Hinojos is also registered as a Bien de Interés Cultural in the “Activity of Ethnological Interest” category.

During the Corpus Festival, decorated streets adorned with foliage and floral arches transform Hinojos into a plant-themed setting. After the Corpus procession, families as well as groups of friends and neighbours gather for a shared outdoor meal. Acquaintances and visitors from outside the area are invited to join them.

El Rociíto is the oldest and most original surviving children’s tradition in Hinojos. It includes a pilgrimage to Parque Los Centenales. There, children and their families come together to spend time outdoors.

Nature and landscape

The Hinojos–Almonte–Bollullos Par del Condado tourist route begins at Parque-Feria and leads into the “Los Propios” public forest. The section through “Los Propios” runs through woodland with mature pine trees, stands of oak and Mediterranean scrubland.

In the “Los Propios” area, a wide variety of birds can be observed, particularly birds of prey such as the common buzzard, the booted eagle and the lesser kestrel.

You can consider extensive landscapes, woodland and birdwatching as separate nature themes for your stay. How you combine them is left to your personal interests.

Visitor centres and trails

The “Los Centenales” visitor centre is located on the edge of Hinojos’s municipal area, in the park of the same name, next to the A-484 road from Hinojos to Almonte. It features an exhibition on the surrounding landscapes.

The El Arrayán trail runs parallel to the paved forest road connecting Hinojos with the hamlet of El Rocío (Almonte). It has a firm concrete surface, offers plenty of shade, is signposted, has footbridges for crossing streams and features only gentle inclines.
