Holiday apartment in Petrovo Brdo: Trails, mountains and history
A well-marked hike from Petrovo Brdo to Porezen takes about 2 hours 15 minutes and is considered easy. The hike from Petrovo Brdo to Kup is also marked: the round trip takes 1 hour 30 minutes and includes 255 metres of elevation gain. The tour offers views of Črna prst, Šoštar, Kobla and Podbrdo.
Hiking
Several circular trails lead through Petrovo Brdo and connect the village with Podbrdo, Robarjev grič, Kovce, Vrh Bače and Bača pri Podbrdu. The Podbrdo–Petrovo Brdo–Robarjev grič–Podbrdo circular trail takes 3 hours. Another loop runs from Podbrdo via Petrovo Brdo, Kovce, Vrh Bače and Bača pri Podbrdu back to Podbrdo and takes approximately 5 hours. The circular trail via Podbrdo, Petrovo Brdo and Vrh Bače is suitable for all generations; the section of the Vrh Bače circular trail starting from Petrovo Brdo is marked.
Long-distance hiking routes also pass through the village. The described long-distance route can be divided into stages from Petrovo Brdo to Porezen, taking 2 hours, and from Petrovo Brdo to Črna prst, taking 4 hours 30 minutes. One section leads from Rodica via Črna prst and leaves the Baška grapa at Petrovo Brdo. Section R9 runs between Porezen and Črna prst via Petrovo Brdo, Vrh Bače and Kobla; the walking time is 6 hours 30 minutes. Another long-distance hiking route leads from Planina Razor via Stržišče and Petrovo Brdo to Porezen.
Culture and history
The circular trail via Petrovo Brdo and Robarjev grič leads to a viewpoint next to a former barracks, with views of Podbrdo and the surrounding mountains. The Volfova pot detour leads to a viewpoint with a memorial marker and an information board dedicated to the priests Andrej and Janez Volf. The Pot po Rapalski meji route variant passes the remains from the period of the Italian occupation of this area.
On Robarjev grič in Petrovo Brdo, there is an information board with stories about locals and newcomers. Since 2007, the Volfovo srečanje has been held there, preserving the memory of the brothers Janez and Andrej Volf. The Volfovo srečanje can be reached on foot from Podbrdo via the Volfova pot »k Robarju«. In the area around Porezen, a winter ascent takes place in March to commemorate events of the Second World War, as well as a summer mountaineers’ gathering in August.
Nature
The area around Porezen offers views of the Baška grapa, the Bohinjsko-Tolminsko gorovje, Triglav and the Cerkljansko hribovje. In the area around Črna prst, the mountain has been known for its diverse vegetation since the end of the 18th century. Just below the summit is a mountain hut next to the Slovenian Mountain Hiking Trail and the international long-distance trail Via Alpina.
The natural landscape of Petrovo Brdo also includes the village stream, which was called Milk brook until recently. It begins to flow at the Pr 'Ruscu fish farm; there, watercourses from numerous gullies cut into the slope of Petrovo Brdo flow into it.
