The Soča Trail in Triglav National Park follows the Soča from its source to Bovec. Along its route, it reaches the village of Soča along the left bank of the river. The 25-kilometre route in total can be adapted in direction and length to the time available and the intended purpose.

Nature

Below the village of Soča lies the Great Soča Gorge. It is 750 metres long and 10 to 15 metres deep. Along the left bank, sections of the gorge can be visited on foot via a marked forest path; it is not fully accessible. In addition to the Great Soča Gorge, the riverbed of the Soča has also carved out the Small Soča Gorges and the gorge near Kršovec.

The Small Soča Gorges are 100 metres long and 6 metres deep. They can be viewed from a bridge below the Turistična kmetija Jelinčič. The starting point for travelling down the Soča is at the end of the Great Soča Gorge. Travelling through the gorge itself is not permitted for safety reasons.

Culture

The Austro-Hungarian military cemetery in Soča is part of the village’s history. It was expanded from an Austro-Hungarian field hospital cemetery dating from wartime; today, more than 1,400 soldiers and prisoners of war are buried there. The cemetery is located behind St Joseph’s Church and the civilian cemetery in the village. Twenty minutes are indicated for a visit. The village of Soča can be reached from Bovec or via the Vršič Pass.

A church in Soča contains characteristic murals by the Slovenian painter, sculptor and graphic artist Tone Kralj on its walls and ceilings. The wall and ceiling paintings depict Slovenian and Slavic saints. One of the depicted heads has the facial features of the fascist dictator Mussolini.

Culinary experiences

Turistična kmetija Jelinčič combines the riverside landscape with insights into local production. A tasting and a visit to the cheese dairy are possible there. Local food and homemade sheep’s cheese are offered. The gorges below the farm and the cheese dairy there thus belong to two different aspects of the same place: the landscape shaped by the riverbed and regional food production.

Equally important are the included services, individual price components, and the booking and cancellation conditions. These fields relate to the specific offer and may differ from one listing to another. A matter-of-fact comparison keeps the focus on the actual scope of services and the costs incurred. This keeps the decision guided by the information on the respective offer page before a booking is made.
