Hudajužna combines a marked trail, the Bača and several memorial sites connected with France Bevk into an unusually tangible local history. At its centre is the Bevkova pot: it begins at the Dom krajanov Hudajužna, Hudajužna 22c, crosses the Bača via a bridge and climbs along a forest track with a gravel surface to Zakojca and the Domačija Franceta Bevka.

Hiking and cycling

The section of the Bevkova pot from Hudajužna to Zakojca takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes on foot. The hike on the Bevkova pot from Hudajužna to Zakojca takes about one and a half hours and is classified as easy. Thus, two traditionally reported time estimates exist for the same route: the specific section taking about 1 hour and 15 minutes, and the more generally described hike taking about one and a half hours.

After the bridge over the Bača stands a wooden bus stop built in an Alpine style, with three information boards. They are dedicated to the history of Hudajužna and nearby Obloke. On the approach from the Dom krajanov to the Bevkova pot there is also the Chapel of St. Barbara; an information board stands next to the chapel.

Zakojca is also connected to Hudajužna by bicycle: a cycling tour in the Kojca area follows a forest road to Zakojca and the Domačija Franceta Bevka. Hudajužna is also considered one of the starting points for Črna prst, Porezen, Zakojca and Kojca.

Landscape

At Hudajužna, the Bevkova pot crosses the Bača via a bridge. Between Hudajužna and Koritnica, the Bača has created the Klonte canyon. In the Zakojška Grapa, the Poreznica stream is now used as a fish-farming stream and as a breeding area for the pure Soča marble trout.

The trail network also includes a forest track through the Zakojška Grapa. This track is neither marked nor maintained.

Culture

The Chapel of St. Barbara in Hudajužna is part of the sacral cultural heritage of the Baška grapa. Another historic site is Hudajužna railway station: it was completely destroyed during a partisan sabotage operation and rebuilt after the war in the style of that period.

The connection to France Bevk on the Bevkova pot is not limited to a place name. During the annual hike on the Bevkova pot, excerpts from the works of France Bevk are read on the way to Zakojca. In this way, the route, destination and literary remembrance are brought together within the same event.

Events

The Bevkovi dnevi event series takes place every year on the third weekend of September. Traditionally, it brings hikers from Hudajužna and Cerkno to Zakojca via three different routes. The Odmevi dediščine festival also takes place annually; its 2025 programme included a lecture and a screening at the Dom krajanov in Hudajužna.
