Holiday apartment in Logje – Napoleon Bridge and Nadiža Gorge

Near Logje, the stone, stepped Napoleon Bridge spans the narrow Nadiža Gorge. Built around 1812, it is an architectural monument and a link to the past. An old road led across the bridge from Pradol and Robidišče onwards along the Nadiža. Logje itself is a compact settlement close to the border, situated on a semicircular terrace high above the Nadiža and below the 598-metre-high Sleme hill.

Culture and history

Some characteristic Breginj-type houses in Logje were rebuilt in the traditional style after the 1976 earthquake. The village is also home to the Church of Saints Primus and Felicianus. Its written history dates back to 1170, when Logje was mentioned under the name Logre. Together with Ahtno Castle (Attimis) in Friuli, Logje was transferred to the Church of Aquileia.

Gradec near Logje is also one of the historical traces in the surrounding area. A fibula found there provides evidence of settlement in the 6th century; Gradec can therefore be interpreted as a Late Antique refuge. Gradec near Logje also bears the monument number EŠD 5026 in the Slovenian heritage register. The Last Contemporary Art Museum presents sculptures, installations, paintings, videos and other works of art. During this period, the museum also offers a small museum shop, workshops, concerts and video screenings.

Landscape and water

The Nadiža Gorge west of Logje is designated as a natural asset of national importance under ID 777. The Nadiža bathing area (Logje – below the bridge) is designated as a bathing area for 2025. Gradec lies at the confluence of the Nadiža and the Legrado stream and can be reached from the south via a longer saddle.

The mountains Monte Lubia, Monte Spich and Monte Mia are located in the vicinity of Logje. The Stol mountain, the ruins of Castello di Soffumbergo and the Church of Sv. Volar are also located around Logje. In the wider regional surroundings of Logje are the Museo archeologico nazionale and the Museo Diocesano e Gallerie del Tiepolo.

Hiking and cycling

The hiking trails in the area include the Napoleon Bridge–Logje trail. The Breginjski kot cycling route leads through Logje down to the Nadiža and to the picturesque gorges of the Nadiža, the stepped Napoleon Bridge and bathing pools. It is 41 kilometres long, takes around four to five hours and has 1,050 metres of elevation gain.
