Holiday apartment in Sedlo: Stol, Juliana Trail and culture

In the immediate surroundings of Sedlo, the Stol–Božca ridge offers opportunities for paragliding; its panoramic ridge is more than 20 km long. Also nearby, the Stol mountains offer numerous ascent options to the peaks along a ridge more than 30 km long.

Routes

The road between Sedlo and Planina Božca improves access to the Stol area. Above the village of Sedlo, directly next to the bus stop, a gravel road branches off the main Staro selo–Breginj road and reaches the pass after just under 11 km. Sedlo also appears as a specific point on two designated tours: the Kobarid–Sedlo–Planina Božca–Kobarid cycling tour passes through Sedlo and Planina Božca.

Stage 13A of the Juliana Trail from Kobarid to Breginj passes the cemetery above Sedlo and the Church of the Holy Cross; a drinking-water source is also indicated in Sedlo on this stage.

History and culture

The cemetery church of the Holy Cross in Sedlo contains older wall paintings beneath the frescoes in the presbytery. The church is therefore not only part of the aforementioned Juliana Trail stage, but also preserves its own layer of mural painting in the interior.

Sedlo is also associated with Vika Podgorska, a prominent stage artist who came from the Čuš family of Sedlo. Another trace leads to the Pod cerkvijo archaeological site near Sedlo. Cremation burials were reported there, possibly dating from prehistoric or Roman times. The finds were never archaeologically investigated and have since been lost.

In the immediate surroundings, on the Planina Božca mountain pasture, on-site production includes cheese, curd cheese and whey. All three products are explicitly part of this production on the mountain pasture.
