Culture

The main part of the Čelo open-air museum consists of a 200-metre-long trench. It connects two gun emplacements, a kitchen, an observation post, sleeping quarters and a shelter. The Čelo open-air museum is located on the slopes of Mount Svinjak and showcases Austro-Hungarian fortifications. From Kal-Koritnica, it can be reached via two trails marked with Walk of Peace signposts; one trail leads to the museum after an approximately half-hour ascent.

The monument in Kal-Koritnica is also one of the local memorial sites: It commemorates those who fell on the Golobar mountain pasture. The local community maintains the monument and organises commemorative events for the fallen. Mount Javoršček reaches an elevation of 1,557 metres and was an important Austro-Hungarian defensive position.

Trails and landscape

A signposted trail to Svinjak begins in Kal-Koritnica and climbs from the meadows into the forest. The route to Svinjak from Kal-Koritnica is described as a five-hour round trip. A route to Mount Javoršček leads from Kal-Koritnica, following the Walk of Peace signposts towards Golobar.

A themed educational trail runs along the emerald-green Soča River. At various stations, it provides information about nature, fish species and the importance of environmental protection. The Fisherman's Trail leads to the Soča and the Breka Pond.

Nature and activities

At a specially designed practice pond at Ribiška hiša, visitors can try out the basics of fly-fishing. Ribiška hiša also features an interactive exhibition about fly-fishing. It is located in Kal-Koritnica, in a building that once housed the village dairy.

The surrounding area can also be explored by mountain bike on a designated route: a moderately difficult circular mountain-bike route runs via Bovec, Kal-Koritnica and Čezsoča before returning to Bovec. The Kal-Koritnica sport climbing area comprises 33 routes with grades ranging from 4a+ to 7b. It can be reached from a car park on the main road in the village via a 10- to 15-minute path.
