Culture

In Volče, the Church of St. Daniel is freely accessible. The present-day church dates from the 16th century; the frescoes also date from the 16th century and are attributed to Jernej of Loka. The Church of St. Leonard in Volče was first mentioned in 1459. It was extensively renovated in 1695; after suffering severe damage during the First World War, it was renovated again in 1921 under the direction of the then parish priest, Alojzij Kodermac.

In the Parish of Volče, the feast day of St. Leonard is celebrated on 6 November with 24-hour adoration before the evening Mass. In the wider area around Volče, the most important pilgrimage gathering takes place in Mengore on the Sunday after 8 September.

Hiking

A recommended circular hike to Bučenica follows the Walk of Peace to the edge of Volče, then turns towards Bučenica. The Bučenica circular hike is 8.7 kilometres long and takes around 3.5 hours. Its route leads from the saddle between Mengore and Bučenica down to Volče along the Walk of Peace and then back to the starting point.

The fifth stage of the Walk of Peace also passes through the village: It leads from the Soča Bridge along a paved road towards the civilian cemetery of Volče. The return route follows the same road to the civilian cemetery of Volče and then continues into the village. From Volče, the fifth stage of the Walk of Peace follows the signs towards Kolovrat.

Stages along the Soča River

Stage 11 of the Juliana Trail follows a forest path above the Soča River to the first house in the village of Volče and then continues to Tolmin. Between Most na Soči and Tolmin, this stage is a moderately difficult hike covering 8.1 kilometres and takes around three hours. Stage 11 of the Juliana Trail is considered suitable for public transport; bus connections run from Ljubljana, Nova Gorica and Bovec via Most na Soči and Tolmin.
