Studor v Bohinju – Vacation Apartment Between Village Culture and the Juliana Trail

Studor v Bohinju is a compact settlement at the foot of the 1,002-meter-high Studor Mountain in the upper Bohinj Valley. From Studor, you can enjoy views of Lake Bohinj and the upper Bohinj Valley. The village thus combines a clearly recognizable Alpine setting with a village landscape in which traditional rural architecture, historical traces, and living traditions are closely intertwined.

Culture

Most houses in Studor are built in the Alpine style, with two stories and arcades. The historical appearance also includes rustic Baroque and Classical embellishments, as well as several preserved Bohinj black kitchens. The group of hayracks in Studor was built between the village and the fields. It consists of covered double hayracks, known as toplarji. Traditionally, the hayracks were used to dry hay and other crops, as well as to store tools and vehicles. The group of hayracks below Studor v Bohinju is cultural heritage in Triglav National Park.

The history of the village also goes back a long way. Two cremation graves were discovered during archaeological inspections in Studor. The archaeological finds indicate that Studor has been inhabited for at least 2,500 years. The Oplen House offers another insight into the rural past. It was opened to the public in 1991 and is a Bohinj-style linear farmhouse that combines living and working areas under one shared roof. The Oplen House is one of the few houses in which a fire can still be lit in the hearth of the black kitchen.

A special local tradition is Otepanje. It is practiced in Studor and takes place on St. Stephen’s Day, December 26. During the tradition, one participant carries a sack of sausages while another carries a bottle of schnapps. The “From Hayracks to the Oplen House” experience includes a guided tour, admission fees, a Bohinj snack, and a welcome drink.

Nature

Jama pod Studorjem is part of Studor’s natural surroundings. The cave is a natural feature of national importance and is classified as a sloping cave with a shaft and levels. Jama pod Studorjem is listed as an open cave with free admission.

Experiences

The Bohinj section of the Juliana Trail leads from Srednja Vas via Studor to Stara Fužina. The Juliana Trail through this area follows well-marked paths, forest roads, and mountain trails and is mostly easy to navigate. Another route combines physical activity and village culture: the E-bike tour through the Voje Valley follows a circular route through traditional villages in the upper and lower Bohinj Valley, including Studor.

Below Studor, Ranč Mrcina offers trail rides as well as carriage rides. The ride to the nearby Senožeta hill is suitable for both beginners and experienced riders.
