Lake Bohinj: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Lake Bohinj is Slovenia’s largest natural permanent lake. It lies in the heart of Triglav National Park and is of tectonic origin. Several underground karst springs are located on the northern shore; Govic is the best known of them.

Nature

The route around Lake Bohinj is just over 11 km long. It can be shortened by walking only the northern shore or only the southern shore.

Water

Boating on Lake Bohinj is permitted across the entire lake, except in the swimming areas in Fužine Bay and Ukanc. The launch and landing points include the south side of the bridge by the Church of St John the Baptist.

The panoramic boat has two boarding points, in Ribčev Laz and Ukanc. The one-way journey between Ribčev Laz and Ukanc takes 30 minutes. The two electric boats, Zlatorog and Triglavska roža, operate on Lake Bohinj in both directions between Ribčev Laz and Ukanc.

There are designated swimming areas at Lake Bohinj in Fužine Bay and Ukanc. The swimming area in Fužine Bay is one of these designated areas. In summer, the surface water of Lake Bohinj warms up to 24 °C. During the bathing season from 15 June to 31 August, ARSO monitors the water quality in the bathing water areas every 14 days.

A two-hour canoe trip on Lake Bohinj includes a round trip across the lake. Lake Bohinj is also suitable for getting your first experience with canoeing.

Culture

The Church of St John the Baptist was built before the year 1300. Its oldest frescoes date from the 13th century. The church is considered one of the outstanding examples of Slovenian medieval architecture.

The International Wildflower Festival takes place every year in May and June at various locations in Bohinj.

Getting around

The Bohinj Cycling Route is fully paved and well signposted. It connects the Lower and Upper Bohinj Valleys. The Na Rju Bridge is an attractive stop along the Bohinj Cycling Route.

Mohant is a speciality from Bohinj and has a European designation of origin.
