The ascent from Koprivnik to Vodnikov razglednik takes about 30 minutes and involves only a small difference in elevation. The stated time should be understood as an approximate indication; the small difference in elevation characterizes the ascent just as much as its short duration. Nature and views

From Vodnikov razglednik, you can see the Lower and Upper Bohinj Valleys, Lake Bohinj and the Julian Alps. A glacial U-shaped valley can also be recognized from here. The view thus extends across two named valleys to the lake and into the alpine landscape; the glacial U-shaped valley adds a recognizable landform to this sequence. The viewpoint is named after Valentin Vodnik, who worked as a priest in Koprivnik for three years. Thus, the landscape and a personality closely connected with Koprivnik come together at this location.

Trails through the surrounding area

Another defining route is the Juliana Trail. It leads from Goreljek through the picturesque villages of Gorjuše and Koprivnik down into the valley. The trail follows well-marked paths, forest roads and mountain trails and is safe and largely easy to navigate. The types of paths mentioned show that the route includes different sections and surfaces. Its course also follows old, centuries-old paths used by the local population to connect their fields and pastures. The trail is therefore present not only as a marked hiking route, but also follows historic connections within this farming landscape.

Culture and remembrance

In Koprivnik, the parish church is dedicated to the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. On a hill near the parish church of Sveti Križ are Huthovo znamenje and the stations of the cross. On one side, Huthovo znamenje commemorates an event from 1943. The way of the cross leads through a quiet forest and, especially at the end, offers beautiful views of the peaks of the Lower Bohinj Mountains. Thus, the religious building, memorial marker and way of the cross are situated within a clearly identified local context.

Valentin Vodnik is also represented in the village through a specific memorial: on 27 August 1893, a commemorative plaque for the poet, editor, linguist and priest Valentin Vodnik (1758–1819) was ceremoniously unveiled on the parish house in Koprivnik. Together with the naming of the viewpoint, it refers to his three-year work as a priest in Koprivnik.

Winter in Koprivnik

In the center of Koprivnik, there is an 800-meter-long cross-country ski trail on a meadow. It is short and not particularly strenuous. The trail thus complements the routes and cultural-historical sites described above with a clearly defined winter activity; its length and the assessment of its difficulty are explicitly stated.
