Srednja Vas offers a varied view of mountain landscapes, rural architecture and regional traditions. Dobrča is a 1,634-metre-high mountain with panoramic views between Tržič and Begunje na Gorenjskem. There is also a mountain hut serving regional dishes, historic farmsteads and unusual evidence of local everyday life.

Nature

Dobrča is signposted from Srednja Vas as a starting point for a hike. Most marked trails to the summit begin in the foothill villages of Brezje pri Tržiču, Hudi Graben or Srednja Vas. Just below the 1,634-metre-high summit lies Koča na Dobrči, a mountain hut at an altitude of 1,478 metres.

Koča na Dobrči has a dining room with 40 seats. There are also 22 beds in six rooms. The menu features mountain-hut dishes such as stews, buckwheat žganci, sauerkraut, sausages, blood sausages, roast pork ribs, cheese štruklji and apple strudel. Buttermilk is also available during the grazing season.

Culture

A distinct insight into the local linguistic and everyday history was created through the collection of field names. Twenty-two local residents took part, and together they collected 423 field names. On a printed map, these names appear in their dialect forms. The map is available free of charge from the municipal offices, the libraries in Radovljica and Begunje, and DUB Bar in Begunje.

Rural architecture includes Domačija Srednja vas 1, a 19th-century farmstead. It comprises a residential building with an upper floor, an agricultural building with living quarters above it, and a central well with a stone surround and water pump. Another agricultural building at Domačija Srednja vas 2 stands on the western edge of the settlement, north of the road from Begunje to Tržič. It includes a masonry stable with a semicircular portal made of tuff stone dating from 1845. Above it are a wooden upper floor with a gallery, a hayloft and a threshing floor.

The history of firefighting in Srednja Vas is also connected with a preserved object. A fire engine pump dating from 1885 was restored after it was discovered under hay on a farm in Srednja Vas near Begunje. A certificate for historic firefighting equipment was issued for the restored pump. It was pulled by two horses on a 3.30-metre-long cart, while two operators pumped the water.

Regional cuisine

Pr' Trlej serves homemade regional dishes. These include sausages, sauerkraut, štruklji, locally sourced meat, omelettes, goulash, risottos, as well as potatoes and vegetables. Pr' Trlej also offers apartments and rooms with private entrances and terraces. Breakfast with ingredients from its own production is available as an option.
