Bohinjska Bistrica can be explored through water, wellness, history and winter activities. The town combines specific places to experience with insights into the past and starting points for routes through the landscape.

Wellness

At Aquapark Bohinj at Triglavska cesta 17 in Bohinjska Bistrica, the facilities include a relaxation pool, a children’s pool and a whirlpool. The wellness area also includes ten saunas in four different types, as well as a salt room for adults and children. This means that the same building focuses on both water areas and a range of wellness options.

Culture

The Museum of the History of Bohinj is housed in Bohinjska Bistrica in the birthplace of Tomaž Godec. It presents a permanent exhibition on the history of Bohinj, ranging from prehistoric settlement to the First and Second World Wars. Occasional workshops for children and adults complement the museum programme.

Bohinjska Bistrica is also home to the Mali vojni muzej soške fronte 1915–1917. The Historia Bohinj museum collection offers another historical perspective. It deals with the events that shaped Bohinj in the 20th century and covers the construction of the Bohinj Railway Tunnel as well as the First and Second World Wars.

The town is also associated with a living tradition: traditional Slovenian cannon firing has been included in the register of intangible cultural heritage since 2019. In August 2024, it was demonstrated in Bohinjska Bistrica by the Mali vojni muzej society.

Nature

The eighth stage of the Juliana Trail leads from Bohinjska Bistrica over the historic Vrh Bače Pass to Podbrdo. For anglers, the Sava Bohinjka fishing area is subject to clear rules: only fly fishing with all types of lines is permitted, but without additives that would alter their original properties.

The first section of this fishing area extends from the outflow of the Jezernica River from Lake Bohinj to the road bridge below the Bohinjska Bistrica River. This section is managed by the Bohinj Fishing Club.

Winter

Kozji hrbet is the lower part of the former Kobla ski centre in Bohinjska Bistrica and is particularly suitable for families and beginners. Kobla is recommended in fresh snow or for beginners’ ski touring training. The ski touring slopes near Kobla are accessible by car.

Getting there

Bohinjska Bistrica offers several specific points of connection for getting there. The first TIC Bohinj on the drive from Ljubljana is located in Bohinjska Bistrica at Mencingerjeva ulica 10. The car shuttle train can transport cars, vans, articulated vehicles, motorhomes and bicycles.

The Bohinjska tržnica is part of the local rhythm. It takes place every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and offers local produce, dairy products, honey and handicrafts.
