Holiday apartment in Koš: chapel, lakes and golf

Koš brings together sacred history, archaeological traces, lake landscapes and various golfing opportunities within a small area. The Gothic St. Andrew’s Chapel dates from 1410. In 2000, it was separated from the former Church of St. Andrew in Koš; on 6 December of the same year, it was re-erected approximately 1,700 metres from the original church site.

Culture and history

On the right-hand side of the church in Koš there is an annex that recalls the sacred space of the old church and contains valuable furnishings from the former church. The history of the site goes back even further: the area of Koš was first settled in the Late Stone Age, the Eneolithic period, between 3,000 and 1,900 BC. A copper stone hammer found in Koš provides evidence of this settlement during the Eneolithic period.

Archaeological traces can also be found at the Koš–Katkej kopec site. There are tar kilns there, broadly dated to the 9th to 11th centuries. Settlement features at this site belong to a settlement dating from the 12th to the middle of the 14th century; in addition, 27 production facilities for tar production were documented there. The Stvacipalej kopec site in Koš lies on a so-called Slavic burial mound. Settlement areas with economic features were identified at this location.

Folk theatre also forms part of the local history. The records for Koš list a total of 126 theatre plays as having been performed since 1919. In 1919, the amateur actors from Koš rehearsed “Kamenný chodníček od Ferka Urbánka” as their first play and performed it.

Nature

One of Koš’s distinctive natural features is the protected small-leaved lime tree “Lipa na Šajbách”. It is cared for by the administration of the Ponitrie Protected Landscape Area. Another landscape feature can be found in the Koš area near Laskár in the Prievidza District: the name Koš or Laskár Koš refers to a group of bodies of water and lakes formed by ground subsidence and the flooding of former mining areas.

The Laskár Lakes form a natural habitat in the Horná Nitra basin. Their surroundings are suitable for easy hikes and walks along the lake shores and wetlands. The lakes also offer opportunities for walks, birdwatching and fishing.

Golf

The golf facility in Koš has a driving range that is also open to the public. The facility also has a publicly available 9-hole course, which the municipality describes as the first golf course in the Trenčín Region. Footgolf at the golf facility is open to the general public. The offering is complemented by an equestrian facility and the “Golf from the Saddle” experience.

A road was rebuilt in Koš to connect the upper and lower parts of the village.
