The ruins of Vršatec Castle are located in the Vršatské hradné bralo National Nature Reserve. They are freely accessible to the public. An educational trail connects Vršatské Podhradie and Červený Kameň.

Pružinská Dúpna Cave is one of the oldest caves in Slovakia and is believed to have formed around 10 million years ago. An educational trail from the village of Priedhorie leads to the cave. Pružinská Dúpna Cave can be visited from 1 May to 31 October by prior arrangement with the speleologists.

Cycling and water

The Váh Cycle Route is one of the oldest and longest cycling routes in Slovakia. It passes through four regions: the Nitra, Trnava, Trenčín and Žilina regions.

The Trenčín Circuit is an easy ride on paved paths and is also suitable for recreational cyclists. The cycling tour starts at the municipal swimming pool in Trenčín; parking is available directly along the route there.

Boating, sailing and fishing are possible at the Nosice Reservoir. The area around the reservoir is accompanied by the developed Váh Cycle Route, making it possible to combine a visit to the water attractions with cycling activities.

Crafts and industrial history

The Sklený sen open-air glassmaking museum introduces visitors to traditional glassmaking. Sklený sen offers guided excursions for families and individuals; glass products can be purchased afterwards.

The Uhoľná expozícia Handlová presents the history of lignite mining in Slovakia, focusing on industrial extraction in the 20th century. Its basement recreates underground spaces and shows coal extraction from manual methods to mechanised mining at the beginning of the 20th century. The exhibition also covers mine ventilation, the pumping of mine water, lighting and the development of mine rescue services.

Králik’s Mill is over 200 years old and preserves its original milling machinery and equipment.
