Prievidza combines sacred architecture, preserved technology, exceptional museum collections and varied routes through nature and the city. Festivals that showcase mining and regional traditions are another highlight. Those who choose a holiday apartment in Prievidza will find a destination whose character is shaped by a wide range of different facets.

Culture

One of the city’s most distinctive religious buildings is the Piarist Church of the Holy Trinity. It was consecrated on 19 August 1753 and has a dual dedication: the Holy Trinity and the Assumption of Mary. At the same time, it is considered one of the finest Baroque buildings in Central Europe. The sanctuary of St. Bartholomew’s Church preserves older traces, with its origins dating back to the end of the 14th century. Vertical sundials dating from 1662 are located on the southern side of this church.

Another side of the city is represented by the Rušňové depo. The railway depot was declared a national cultural monument in 2005. With its preserved technical equipment, it is considered the best-preserved building of its kind in Slovakia. The Hornonitrianske Museum provides another focal point: across nine specialist groups, it manages more than a quarter of a million collection items. The holdings include extensive invertebrate collections as well as unique palaeontological finds of Tertiary flora and fauna.

Events

The mining tradition also features in the annual Banícky jarmok. The festival begins with a mining procession and a mining hymn and lasts for three days. The programme also includes the Prievidzský rínok food festival. The Hornonitrianske Folklore Festival focuses on folk customs, traditions, songs and dances, traditional crafts and folk costumes.

Nature

The Zlatá prievidzská cesta combines the city’s history, sights and landscape. It comprises two circular walks through Prievidza’s preserved architectural monuments and sights, as well as through the city’s natural attractions and significant sites.

Hradisko is located in the cadastral area of Prievidza, in the Hradec suburb, as an andesite rock formation in the Vtáčnik Mountains. It is also one of the most important archaeological sites in Upper Nitra. In Skotňa Park, visitors can visit the viewpoint on Mariánsky vršok and work out at an outdoor fitness playground.

Routes

For cycling, the 6 km route between Prievidza and Bojnice is a good option. It can be ridden in both directions and follows paved paths. Another easy cycling route starts at the entrance to the Lesopark in Prievidza’s Sever residential district. It leads through the forest along a dirt track and then on a forest path to the “Klčovňa” forester’s lodge. You can take your first break there or continue riding.

Also pay attention to the included services, the individual price components, and the booking and cancellation conditions. This makes it possible to compare the specific offer with your own expectations in a clear and comprehensible way, without anticipating general features that would have to apply to every stay.

For additional destinations, you can also view Nitrianske Pravno, Cigeľ, Opatovce Nad Nitrou, Šútovce, Bystricany, Kamenec Pod Vtáčnikom, Jalovec and Temeš.
