Holiday apartment in Čachtice: castle, museum and nature

Čachtice combines the ruins of Čachtice Castle with panoramic views, historical collections and a hiking trail. The ruins preserve remnants of Renaissance stepped gables as well as fragments of the original painted plaster. Čachtice Castle offers views of the surrounding slopes of the Little Carpathians, the Myjava Hills and Považský Inovec.

Nature and landscape

Part of the Čachtický hradný vrch National Nature Reserve lies within the cadastral area of Čachtice. The reserve is located in the Little Carpathians and complements the landscape around the castle with a protected natural area.

Trails and access

The Čachtice Educational Trail is a 2.5 km hiking trail with an elevation difference of approximately 40 m, a walking time of around 1 hour and 50 minutes, and six stations. The trail is self-guided, can be walked in both directions and is accessible year-round. Čachtice Castle can be reached by car, train, bus or on foot.

Culture

The Čachtice Museum displays historical weapons, documents, garments and jewellery, portraits, archaeological finds, ceramic vessels and folk-cultural art objects. The museum also contains written and visual material about the meeting of the Tatrín literary society on 9 and 10 August 1847 in Čachtice, as well as its support for a new Slovak written language.

The Church of St. Ladislav in Čachtice, dedicated to Saint Ladislaus, was built in 1390 by Duke Ctibor I as an originally Gothic church and was remodelled, enlarged and given a Baroque makeover in 1680. It has a late Baroque organ and a Baroque side door dating from 1661. The church stands within a stone fortification with loopholes and three entrances. Notable features include a stone arched bridge with a parish staircase and a portal dating from 1697.

A museum was established in Draškovičov Manor in the 1960s; today, the manor house is a branch of the Trenčín Museum. The Čachtice Museum in Draškovičov Manor presents Alžbeta Báthoryová in a historically grounded portrayal, including through a talking portrait. The exhibition at Draškovičov Manor also includes a holographic theatre. In a replica blacksmith's workshop, a blacksmith addresses visitors via a digital screen and involves them in a conversation about his work.

Draškovičov Manor in Čachtice reopened to the public after extensive reconstruction. The manor's historic park garden was ceremonially opened to the public on 22 August 2026 and provides space for recreation, culture, education and social activities. The paths in the revitalised historic park garden were designed to make access to the manor house easier for people with limited mobility and other health impairments.
