Vacation apartment in Višňové: Nature, castle ruins and trails

Višňové combines a protected landscape with historical traces and trails to the ruins of Čachtický hrad. The Jablonka River, also known as Dudváh, flows through the village. Since its designation in 1976, the Malé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area has also extended into the cadastral area of Višňové.

Nature

The natural area includes the Čachtický hradný vrch National Nature Reserve. It was designated in 1964 over an area of 13.7 hectares and protects a rocky forest-steppe with rare flora and fauna, especially insects. A cave discovered only recently in Višňové is not currently open to the public. Thus, the area around the village includes both open landscapes and protected areas that are not accessible to the public.

Trails

The Chodník R. Drozda is a moderately difficult route with a steep ascent to Drapliak. Another access route leads through Višňové to Čachtický hrad. From Višňové railway station, a green-marked trail with a steep ascent leads to Čachtický hrad in about 45 minutes. The castle ruins offer beautiful panoramic views.

Culture and history

Čachtický hrad is a picturesque castle ruin between Čachtice and Višňové. History is also evident in Višňové itself in a distinctive structure: construction of the Zvonica Višňové began in 1899. The building was constructed from stone quarried locally; the lime used for the construction was burned from local limestone below Stráním.

Traditional crafts are also part of the village’s history. During the First Czechoslovak Republic, the household production of straw baskets and the weaving of linen and hemp cloth were among the traditional crafts in Višňové. Thus, alongside the castle ruins, regional building and craft traditions are also central to the area’s cultural heritage.

Railways and cycling

Railway line Z.121 connects Nové Mesto nad Váhom and Stará Turá. The line, which includes a tunnel, was completed in 1929. Route 17 from Nové Mesto nad Váhom via Višňové and Čachtický hrad to Hrachovište can also be used with public rail transport.

For cycling, cycle route 022 follows a paved road to Višňové and then continues through the Višňovská dolina towards Čachtice; along the way, it offers beautiful views of Čachtický hrad. Trasa č. 1 is part of the Kopaničiarska cyklomagistrála.
