Culture and History

The new vicarage was built in 1909 under the direction of architect Milan Harminc. The vicarage next to the Evangelical church in Lubina was built at the same time as the church and is now a cultural monument.

The Rodný dom Samuela Štúra Museum comprises four exhibitions covering Samuel Štúr and the Štúrs from Lubina, J. Ľ. Holuby, regional history, culture and traditional costumes, as well as the world wars, the Slovak National Uprising in the area of Veľká Javorina, the foreign resistance and American airmen. The museum is dedicated to Jozef Ľudovít Holuby (1836–1923), who was born in Lubina and was an Evangelical pastor as well as a botanist of world renown.

The Rodný dom kapitána Miloša Uhra is associated with Miloš Uher (1914–1945), commander of the Hurban partisan unit. Commemorative ceremonies are held at the monument every year in August.

Traditions

At the annual Slávnosti bratstva Čechov a Slovákov on Veľká Javorina, folk music groups, folklore ensembles and country groups from both sides of the border perform; the celebrations are usually centered around the area of Holubyho chata.

The Lubina dialect dictionary contains more than 2,700 dialect words, registers of field names, descriptions of the preparation of traditional dishes, recollections, records of old wedding songs and traditional nicknames.

On August 2, 2025, Správa vodovodu Lubina-Podkozince, led by Branislav Znachor, organized the 13th edition of the Podkozinská vareška goulash cooking competition.

The different trail lengths and modes of transport provide an objective basis for distinguishing between hiking and cycling tours. The ski resort on Veľká Javorina is located at an elevation of 905 meters above sea level.

The cross-country ski trails around Veľká Javorina are connected to the Moravian side and to Stará Myjava. Road II/581 connects Lubina with Nové Mesto nad Váhom and Stará Turá.
