Modrová: Holiday Apartment, MTB Route 5213 and Modrovská Cave

Modrovská Cave is the largest cave in the Považský Inovec. Its entrance is located on the northwestern slope of the Grnica massif at an elevation of 523 m. Inside are characteristic pisolitic sinter formations, including various bush-like forms reminiscent of underwater corals. The cave is closed to the general public; visits are only possible when accompanied by members of the Inovec Cave Group. Access to the interior therefore remains restricted to such guided visits.

Nature

The Kyselka mineral spring is located in the Kalište recreational area in Modrová. The Kňaží vrch Nature Reserve protects thermophilous oak forests with downy oaks (Quercus pubescens) and, together with the treeless rocks, enables the occurrence of xerothermic flora and fauna in the Považský Inovec. Carpathian species also occur on the northern slopes. The nature reserve is part of the Tematínske vrchy Site of European Interest.

Cycling Routes

The green MTB Route 5213 leads from Hubina via Gonove Lazy to Horáreň Modrová. It runs predominantly through forest terrain and connects at its end with the red Route 020 “Across the Považský Inovec” through the Považský Inovec.

Culture and History

The church in Modrová has a presbytery standing on square foundations and featuring a barrel vault. A small sacristy is connected to the chancel by a flat Gothic trefoil portal; it has one Romanesque and one Gothic narrow window only 10 to 15 cm wide. The Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Modrová is listed in the Central Register of the Slovak Monument Fund under number 1253/0.
