Topoľčany District: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Hradisko Valy presents an open-air archaeological exhibition featuring reconstructed Slavic houses, a fortification wall, a clay oven, a smithy and a storage pit. The site also includes the largest reconstruction of a Slavic gate in Central Europe.

Anyone who puts Hradisko Valy, Duchonka or Oponický hrad in the Topoľčany District on their personal travel list may wish to rent a holiday apartment.

Nature

The landscape of the Topoľčany District is framed by the Považský Inovec in the west and the Tribeč in the east. The Ponitrie Protected Landscape Area extends into the eastern part of the Topoľčany District and provides a habitat for rare and protected plant and animal species.

In the part of the Tribeč belonging to the Topoľčany District, oak-hornbeam forests, oak forests and, at higher elevations, beech forests are characteristic.

Access to Hradisko Valy is free year-round; the site is located approximately 5 km from Bojná.

Water

The Duchonka recreation area is located in the cadastral territory of Prašice on the eastern edge of the Považský Inovec, in and around the Duchonka reservoir.

The Duchonka water area can be used for swimming, boating, fishing and other sporting activities, but exclusively at one's own risk.

Culture and history

The Tribečské múzeum in Topoľčany has more than 90,200 collection items and regularly holds exhibitions and workshops.

The Apponyi Museum in Oponice contains more than 2,500 exhibits related to the Apponyi family. The museum includes part of the Apponyi family library, founded in 1774. It also houses an exhibition of artefacts from Allied aircraft that crashed in the Tribeč Mountains at the end of the Second World War.

The Church of St Peter and St Paul in Oponice has an organ built in 1869 with 620 pipes. The Apponyi crypt beneath the Church of St Peter and St Paul has been open to the public since 1993.

The ruins of Topoľčiansky hrad are located above the village of Podhradie in the Topoľčany District. Topoľčiansky hrad is a royal castle dating from the 13th century.

Topoľčiansky hrad can be reached by car as far as below the castle; from there, it is approximately a five-minute walk, while from Podhradie it is about a 15-minute walk along blue- and green-marked trails. A red cycling route leads from Topoľčany to the castle.

Hiking

A hiking trail leads from Oponice to Oponický hrad. The walk takes approximately 30 minutes. Oponický hrad offers panoramic views across the Zobor valley as far as Bánovecko.

The Oponice–Horné Lefantovce route is a moderately difficult hike on marked trails. It follows a green hiking trail past Apponyi Castle, which is surrounded by an English park, and then climbs to Oponický hrad.
