Nemečky – Prehistory, Reservoir and Trails in the Považský Inovec

Nemečky lies below the eastern slopes and foothills of the Považský Inovec in a relatively deep valley of the Chocina stream, which runs on both sides of the village.

Nature

Distinctive wooded ridges of the side foothills of the Považský Inovec line Nemečky. Brown hares, wild rabbits, European ground squirrels, least weasels and red foxes live at the forest edges around Nemečky. Thus, the wooded uplands and the animal species mentioned for this landscape meet directly in the village setting.

Culture and History

A Neolithic vessel dating from 4000 to 2000 BC was found in the Luknišová area near Nemečky. Remains of a settlement dating from around the 3rd millennium BC came to light in the built-up area of Nemečky, including pottery sherds of the Potiská culture. At the Lány archaeological site near Luknišová, pottery sherds from the Older Eneolithic were found; they are attributed to the so-called Ludanice group.

The municipal bell tower in Nemečky houses a bell from 1864. Nemečky also has a stone statue of the Virgin Mary with the Child from 1714. The Chapel of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows is one of Nemečky’s religious cultural monuments.

Near Nemečky, a wayside devotional image called Obrázok stands at a forest-track crossroads. In the 17th and 18th centuries, numerous believers travelling to pilgrimage sites in the Považie region stopped there. Nemečky also has a wooden cross that has stood there since time immemorial.

Water and Seasons

The Nemečky Reservoir is used for fishing and visited by many anglers every year. The area around the Nemečky Reservoir is suitable for boating. Since 2002, the Ľadové medvede have regularly met at the Nemečky Reservoir to ceremonially open the swimming season for winter swimmers.

Trails

The Považský Inovec educational trail passes through Nemečky. It is self-guided, supported by text and graphics, accessible year-round and designed as a linear route. Including the municipal branches, the educational trail is approximately 60 km long. The blue Duchonka Cycle Route 2101 runs around the Nemečky Reservoir.

The Nemečky Reservoir can be reached from Nemečky on foot via a paved road in approximately 15 minutes. For personal day planning, the trails can be distinguished by their form and scale: the educational trail is linear and long, the cycle route circles the reservoir, and the footpath provides a short connection to the water. The description therefore presents three different trail characteristics side by side: a long educational trail with accompanying materials, a route around the lake, and an approximately fifteen-minute connection along a paved road.
