Holiday apartment in Kamanová – castle, church and local history
Kamanová Castle is a two-storey neoclassical building from the second half of the 19th century. It is surrounded by a protected park with exotic trees and shrubs. At the same time, the castle is abandoned, falling into disrepair and developing into a ruin. The architectural form, park and present condition thus stand side by side as different chapters of the same local history.
History
Kamanová was first documented in 1419 under the historical name Kamanfalva. Another fixed point in the development of the village is the year 1912: that was when Kamanová’s first new school building was constructed. Historic houses also provide a concrete insight into earlier construction methods. They were built from unfired clay bricks and covered with thatched roofs.
Church and Culture
The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Kamanová was consecrated on 14 September 1981. The church tower was consecrated on 20 September 2009. The church interior contains a two-manual organ with pedals, catalogued as II / P / 20 (8+8+4). Another ecclesiastical date is associated with Christmas 1970: the first midnight mass was held in Kamanová’s new church at Christmas 1970.
Tradition and Flavour
The traditional everyday culture also includes the use of plums. In Kamanová, plum butter was traditionally cooked for a day and a night. Plums were also dried and preserved. These preparation methods refer not only to a food, but also to the long period of time and the various ways in which it was preserved.
